About
the Belgian Sheepdog
(Groenendael)
Also
known as the Groenendael, or
Chien de Berger Belge, Belgian Sheepdogs are renowned for their bravery
during the first world war, during which they served their masters in
battle. These incredible dogs were used to carry messages, assist the
wounded and even to haul machine guns.
As a family pet, the Belgian
Sheepdog is wonderful. This highly intelligent, affectionate and amiable
dog makes a very devoted family companion and watchdog, best suited to
country living or a home with a large, fenced yard. The Belgian Sheepdog
has a natural
herding instinct that makes it a wonderful babysitter that always likes to have
family members safely within sight.
Belgian Sheepdogs love to stay active
and excel in canine sports such as agility and flyball - a great choice
for families who like to stay active.
Belgian Sheepdogs are strong, alert
and athletic dogs that are well-balanced and squarely built. Males are
slightly larger than females, and both carry themselves proudly.
Grooming
requirements are moderate; the thick coat should be given a thorough
brushing every few days to keep it soft, shiny and tangle-free. |
