About Border Collie Dogs

Whether you're looking for a great farm hand for herding livestock - or a great mom's helper to herd children, the super-intelligent Border Collie makes a great all-round family dog! This colorful breed originates in Bonnie Scotland, where it was used to herd flocks of sheep in the Highlands. Agile, athletic and capable, the Border Collie is considered to be the world's best herding dog. Border Collies are active, and very eager to please. They possess a unique ability to focus their energy on the job, and provide and invaluable service to livestock farmers. Border Collies are very affectionate with their families and those they are familiar with, but can be somewhat reserved with strangers. They are not known to be aggressive or shy.

Because of this breed's strong drive and work ethic, it needs an active life. Border Collies love to be active, and excel in such activities as agility, flyball, search and rescue - or a demanding game of fetch in the back yard. The breeds intelligence makes it perform extremely well in obedience.

This medium sized breed has either a long or smooth coat, and is generally black with white markings. Other color variations include tri-color, merle, bi-color, sable and solid. Grooming requirements are minimal - a good weekly brushing is more than adequate to keep the soft, shiny coat in great shape! If you are an active family looking for a wonderful family pet, be sure to take a good look at the Border Collie!
