About Silky Terrier Dogs

A cross between the Australian Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier, the Silky Terrier breed was originally developed in Australia as a beautiful household pet. The Silky Terrier does this job very well, combining the best traits of both the terrier and toy breeds. Hardier and requiring less grooming and care than the Yorkie, but not as active as the terrier, the Silky Terrier is an excellent choice for those who love the lustrous coat and adorable qualities of the yorkie, but also want a dog that is relatively low-maintenance.  The breed has been known by a variety of names including the Victorian Silky, Sydney Silky and Australian Silky Terrier. Whatever you call this adorable little dog, the silky makes a wonderful pet and can now be found in homes throughout the world. A Toy breed with the heart of a terrier, the Silky measures nine to 10 inches at the shoulder and weighs from eight to 10 pounds. The perfect pet for dog lovers who live in the city - the Silky should be brushed daily. They are happy with minimal exercise, making them a good choice for elderly and disabled owners.
