About Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Dogs
|
Bouncy and active, but not "hyper", the
Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is
a friendly, high-energy dog that adores children and has even been
used as a therapy dog for disturbed children. The breed originated
in Ireland where it was used for more than 200 years for a hunting
companion, vermin catcher and guard dog. It was first recognized as
a breed by the Irish Kennel Club in 1937. Since that date,
Wheaten
Terriers have found their way into the hearts and homes of families
around the world.
Thinking of adding a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier puppy to your family? Wheaten Terrier dogs get along well with other (well-behaved) family pets. Their exercise needs suit their owners - they can keep up with joggers or just stroll along on a daily walk. A medium-sized dog weighing from 30 to 40 pounds, the Wheaten Terrier dog breed is known for its abundant gold colored coat that at adulthood falls in soft waves. It is a continuous, non-shedding coat that requires extensive maintenance and regular trimming to keep its proper shape. (The coat is said to be non-allergenic - a plus for allergy sufferers!) Early and consistent obedience training is essential in ensuring a well-behaved family pet. This breed responds better to positive, rather than negative reinforcement. Common Misspellings for Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier: soft coat wheaten terrier, wheaten dog, soft haired wheaten terrier, soft hair wheaten terrier, Irish soft coated wheaten terrier |
